We had planned to practice today but the weather is going to not warm up enough. We are not in the habit of cancelling an event but Mother Nature is one thing we have to work with.

MORE RAIN
It really started out dry. We have had a 15 day spell since our last rain event and as usual we were dry before the last rain. Todays rain was a good thing for the track and the project. With most of the area around the track covered with grass the rain is welcome to cut our water bill a little. We got almost as much rain today as we had in the whole month of September.

EASY WORK DAY
It is Friday a warm, muggy, windy morning. Things go well at the Devon Tower. At lunch while outside the building you could see the clouds moving across the sky. They almost looked as if they were in a hurry to get north.
After work today we spent some quality time with the city permits department, with any luck it will be the last time for this part of the new track. Today we were able to get our building permit closed. This is our last open permit, closing it also closes our city Storm water permit. With that done the next thing is to get our Certificate of Occupancy. It was to be one of the very few times in our dealing with the city that we really got something done in a few minutes without demands and more questions than answers. Then the email arrived and the attachment was our certificate. This certificate with allow us to do business on the property. As of today we can legally have events at the new track. We will frame this document!
Later in the day a couple of us went out to Yukon BMX to get in some track time. It was good to see all the folks there and the weather was nice after dark when the wind died down.

WORK DAY OF SORTS
Forget about the weather and after work today we worked on important things again this evening. Was it another day of waiting to get our building permit final inspection? After checking the city web site on our permits the list still showed the permit open or 'issued'. Upon closer inspection of the details page for the building permit alone we found out the final was marked as completed early this morning. Once again the web site was not updated when we checked. It was to late in the day to make any calls to the city so tomorrow we will be on the phone get our last permt closed officially.

NO WORK TODAY?
More work today but not at the track. We spent time once again on the phone with the city inspection services. Since we have closed on the electrical permit it was time to request an final for the building permit which will be our final permit to close and finish this phase of construction. When the building permit is closed we hope to get an Certificate of Occupancy. This will be the final step before we can do business legally at the new track. Now just a few steps away. Yea

WORK DAY
It was another day of working and waiting the the city to do our final inspection on the electric service. Later in the day the city web site did show we had indeed had our inspection and the permit was close. We had thought we would need to open our box for this inspection and would have gotten a call before hand but not the case for this inspection. We are just glad to have it final so we can get the rest of the permits closed. Another odd thing about this inspection. Our first 'final' was 'rejected' as noted on the city web site dated 2011-09-07 03:12PM. We were told the inspector was unable to find the location and would require a reinspection which costs $37. We put up a sign so that would not happen again on 09-21-2011 but that was stolen last night. Ripped right from the pole. Just another thing that will cost more money and delay things in the future.

WORK DAY
It was late in the day after leaving the Devon Tower and work we spent a little time out at the track working. Not much got done but we are slowly getting to the time we will be grooming the track to use it. Most of the straights are clear and have been packed in till time for the finish work. The PRO SET needs work, the first and last turn and the last half of the third straight all need work. The third straight work is and easy finish wnd will be done when we finish the last turn work. The last turn has been sprayed to kill the grass as has the rest of the track. Next we will clear out the last turn, rake it and the last half of the third straight then pack this in for finish work. Then on to the last turn and the PRO SET.

WORK TODAY
We had volunteers out working on the last turn today. Thank you for your work, now the last turn is about half cleared of grass and weeds again.
Some of the things we need to do before we are able to race again is get a new light for the starting gate and building something for the new gate to fall on when it drops. When we designed the gate slab we were still unsure how or what the gate would fall on to so we decided to wait till later for this. We still have not designed what will go there but we will be building this soon when we finish the drainage under the gate. On the light we have a very limited options. Buy a light from Cartessa who makes the ABA/UCI gate controller for $425 (the old style light and stand) or $465 for an LED version of the old style light and stand. Another option is buying a LED light from bmxtracksupply.com which is either $250 for the light and a plug for the cable or $325 for the light a stand and cable. Our last option is to build a light ourselves. There is a web page for just this project mankatoareabmx.com/DIYLED.html. A well written and informative page on building a light with a few available resources for about 1/2 the price of any above.

FOR SOME NO WORK TODAY
We had volunteers out working on the last turn today. Thank you for your work, now the last turn is about to be cleared of grass and weeds again. Most of us took off from the track today. Yesterday was not a good day. it seems the water pump has gone out in Brutus so now we have a small radiator leak and a water pump to replace. It was a nice day and it was nice not having to be at the track on a day off. So since we are not working at the track it is time to do some other work for the track, update the web site, read track mail and look at some recent paperwork from ABA. We are hoping to get a little time in soon filing paperwork with ABA since we hope to have the track open soon.

We still need to finish grooming the track and while all the construction has been going on we have not mowed or ran a weedeater for some time. All that work should be finished in the near future. A LITTLE WORK TODAY
After working today we spent some time getting to the track to hang our new permit sign for the project. After waiting to hear about our final inspection for the electric service we finally called to find out what had happened. It seems the inspector was unable to find the location so we will have ask for a reinspection and pay for the extra inspection even though we never had the last inspection. Sounds like a good way to get paid for doing nothing more than nothing. Anyone looking for the track can get on Google Maps or any of the other internet road map services, put in the address and find the track. So now we have to have a sign to help the lost inspectors. Wonder how long the sign will last, not long we think.

We watered the final work on the second turn, what didn't get packed last weekend. Two turns and two straights and the track will be ready for the finish grooming before we start using it if we can get all our inspections done and get of Certificate of Occupancy.

LABOR DAY/WORK DAY
More raking, watering, filling and shaping today on the second turn. The bottom was filled and shaped while the upper part was getting watered and raked. We got a lot done today but not enough for us to pack anything in for this weekend. We also spent a little time working on where you spill out of the second turn into the third straight. That are will get raised like the bottom of the second turn, all this work is for drainage.

Today we again worked on the last straight and got it watered raked and packed before we started work on the second turn. We have 3 of the 5 straights cleared of grass and weeds again and packed ready to do the finish work. Our work on the second turn will take some time since we will be raising the bottom of the turn 6-8 inches. The Bobcat will turn that work into just a minor delay to get the turn done. Today we used the Bobcat to clear some of the grass and weeds also to smooth out some of the turn before we start raking and filling in to bottom.

It was something we had not seenng in a little while, we got rain today. It was not much rain, just enough to settle the dust but it was nice to get a little moisture. Today we worked on the track since it was already dry before the rain and we waited till late to start work. WORK DAY
First we want to thank our volunteers who came out to work today and thank Mother Nature for the little rain we got yesterday it saved us some work and watering. Today we worked on the second turn. We watered the final work on the second turn, what didn't get packed last weekend. Two turns and two straights and the track will be ready for the finish grooming before we start using it if we can get all our inspections done and get of Certificate of Occupancy.

It has been another week since we requested the final electrical inspection and still not word on the outcome yet or a call from the city to meet at the location for the inspection. Just another delay since we ask for this inspection back when we got our rough-in inspection (2011-03-07) and have again ask for this inspection on 08-29-2011.

LABOR DAY/WORK DAY
More raking, watering, filling and shaping today on the second turn. The bottom was filled and shaped while the upper part was getting watered and raked. We got a lot done today but not enough for us to pack anything in for this weekend. We also spent a little time working on where you spill out of the second turn into the third straight. That are will get raised like the bottom of the second turn, all this work is for drainage.

WORK DAY
Today we again worked on the last straight and got it watered raked and packed before we started work on the second turn. We have 3 of the 5 straights cleared of grass and weeds again and packed ready to do the finish work. Our work on the second turn will take some time since we will be raising the bottom of the turn 6-8 inches. The Bobcat will turn that work into just a minor delay to get the turn done. Today we used the Bobcat to clear some of the grass and weeds also to smooth out some of the turn before we start raking and filling in to bottom.

RAIN TODAY
It was something we had not seenng in a little while, we got rain today. It was not much rain, just enough to settle the dust but it was nice to get a little moisture. Today we worked on the track since it was already dry before the rain and we waited till late to start work. The track was dry enough to work at mid day and we worked on the area around the finish line. We almost got this work done today before we left but it will be finished tomorrow.
