LATE RAIN
So we made it through Saturday without rain but things changed on Sunday. Now it looks like we will have rain on and off most of the night and that will turn to snow tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday. Well the snow thing has at least done one thing and that is soak every inch of dirt in the city. None of this rain is going to soak in and more snow means this place may be soaked for some time to come. What a way to start the racing year!

So who said it was going to be easy?

MORE MELTING
The forecast was for a slight chance of rain today but that didn't happen. We did stay above freezing last night and this morning. The above freezing temps have melted most all of the ice and snow. Even with the warm temps we did not have much drying since the sun was not bright nor did we have much wind. This afternoon was however nice and cool for some outdoor work.

SOPPING WET
Another day of moisture for us today. With some light mist all day and above freezing temps we had a lot of melting today. The ground is saturated with water and some not well drained areas are somewhat like a mud bog. Just like walking on a sponge. Things will be wet for some time considering the weather forecast with more rain or snow ahead on Sunday, Monday and again on Wednesday. Our rainy season may have started early this year.

MANY ACCIDENTS
The day started for many with accidents on the roads and highways. Even with above freezing temps we had much ice from overnight this morning and many found out the hard way to watch for ice on mornings like todays. It was not much different than the last two mornings but many had overlooked the very chance of ice this morning.

MORE FOG AND MELTING
It was well above freezing today but the morning was another day where you needed to remind yourself of the danger of ice on the roadways. We were lucky this morning and no bad accidents happened but the danger was still all to easy to forget. Even though we made it well above freezing the day did not see a real increase in melting since we had almost no sunlight. Only a few times did the sun come burning through the clouds. At least we did get above freezing to melt alway some of this mess.

So who said it was going to be easy?

FREEZING FOG, MELTING
With freezing fog the big thing this morning it turned out to be a day of above freezing temps and that helped melt this mess left over from last weekend. Even with the melting it will be some time till we are able to get close to a BMX track since the ground is so saturated and will get even more so with all the is melting. The ground is like a wet sponge just soaking up more moisture. We will need several days of sunshine and wind to get rid of all this moisture.

NOT ABOVE FREEZING
It was not a pretty sight this morning with freezing fog and ice on many of the roads. The major highways were mostly clear this time around not anything like the days following the Christmas Eve 2009 blizzrd we had. The Christmas event had some much coming down so fast no one would have had a chance to get ahead of that storm. This time they were out working well before the event and it seemed more manageable and managed.

WHAT NOW
The first month of 2010 is over. What has happened this month?
Bad weather started the month with all tracks remain closed.
Next week ends with only 3rd day this month above freezing.
A new week with nice weather still not open tracks.
A week for history, Sooner National.
Rounding out the month we have more bad weather, still not tracks open.
Alas, the last week will not be typical soon.

MELTING A LITTLE
It was nice to make it to near freezing today to see some of this frozen stuff go away. Many are waiting to get power from the ice. Today the main roads cleared with traffic. Everyone had cabin fever and most got out to go somewhere today. Our residential areas however turned into skating rinks and may not be much better tomorrow. This Winter has really put a wrench in racing this year, had it not been for the Sooner National there was no racing this month.

ICE, SLEET, SNOW DAY2
Now the day was a wash for most as most of us stayed home from work today. No highways in town where closed but the roads are slick and hazardous and we had snow most of the day, till 7pm. Now with at least 6 inches of snow on ice and sleet things are cold, slick and no fun at all. Maybe tomorrow the sun will come out and start melting this mess.

ICE, SLEET, SNOW
Today was not a great day and things will get worse. As the light misting rain of this morning turned to freezing rain things started to look bad. At 2pm we had a 1/4 inch of ice with a layer of sleet starting to build up fast. By the end of the day we had about 1/2 inch of ice with more sleet and snow starting to fall. The freezing rain has already left many without power.

GETTING BAD NOW
The morning started out nice and most of the day was good and windy that is. It by any means did not stay warm long as the sun stayed behind clouds most of the day. When it did peek through it was like a breath of fresh air and then it was gone. We will see the temps drop tonight and go down for the next 2-3 days.

WHAT IS COMING
Once again we have a huge front barreling down on us this week. Our forecast is looking bad for the end of the week. With 3-9 inches of snow with freezing rain, ice, snow showers it sounds like more Winter fun in Oklahoma.

GOOD LUCK AT SOONER NATIONAL
The media blitz began early this morning. First up was KAUT 43 at 8:45am. So far no net video on KAUT. Next up came KWTV 9 at 4:45pm. It was during the early evening news. ABA furnished the background video for this segment. That 'background video' is the new ABA 30 second commercial, no audio. A link to the segment KWTV. Later today it was off to Telemundo. A little more time behind the camera. Again it was Dennison Smith with 'Go for it Gopher', the ABA BMX mascot who also made it to the KWTV segment. At Telemundo the segment was recorded for use later this weekend.
Next up tomorrow is FOX 25 Friday at 7:20am.
Watch out for 'Go for it Gopher' at the Lazy E Arena this weekend.

GREY, DAMP AND COOL
Mother Nature has again ahown the outdoor tracks in this area what it is like to be damp for any extended period. Since the blizzard that blew in on Christmas Eve we have been cold and damp. Most days have had little sun and with out the sun and wind we have little drying of the ground. So far this month we have had only 8 days with above freezing temperatures.

GREAT FOR WINTER
If we had a few more days like today we would be out practicing on our bikes on a track. A National event is upon us and our local riders have not had any time on a track this year in this area. We would have to go back a few years to find a year when we have practiced or raced before the Sooner National. We need more weather like today.

The wind was back today with 13 to 23mph winds, we had gusts to 35mph so it was a day to hold your hat if you had one on your head. The south wind did warm us up to 57°. Today was only the second morning low above freezing since Christmas Eve, we hope we have a few more this week.

WHERE ARE WE
As crazy as the weather has been it is time to let you know what has been happening with our weather. Most don't know but we are in an El Nino weather pattern. This has usually meant wetter and cooler weather for our part of the US. So this year is looking to be more like 2008 when we had a very wet February and only 3 races before the Sooner National. What has Mother Nature in store for us this year? One thing is sure there will be a little more chatter on BMX very soon, maybe before the National?

BETTER WEATHER
So today we started out at 22° this morning and what a big difference it was from the last few days. Our high was 56°, the wind was below 20mph clear skies and the sun felt really good today. Maybe we will see an end to the Christmas snow and ice after all. The warm temps made the stuff really go away today we hope it will finish the job soon.

ABOVE FREEZING TODAY
So it was not much better for a start but the day did get warmer and we did get above freezing today. Our morning low was 6° which was the coldest this Winter so far. But we did get to 42° which made things a little less dangerous for outside ventures. The bitter wind chills we have had did make outside trips not any fun at all. It looks like we may be out of the freezer at least during the day for a few days which will be a big relief for much of the country.

NOT MUCH BETTER
It was almost a repete of yesterday but we did make it to 28° for our our high today. With only 15mph winds the cutting was a little less but it was still not a good day for outside anything unless you wanted to make ice. At least the wind was down, it didn't help much. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and we can get rid of all this ice and snow left over from Christmas.

DEEP FREEZE HERE
Now it looks like the weather forecasters were correct in the forecast with a huge cold blast hitting here and staying for a few days. Today was not a day to be outside at all. With near 30mph winds from the north and bitterly cold temps it was not a pretty sight. We made it to 22° for a high and the morning low was 7°. The wind chill was well below zero and stayed near zero for the daylight hours. To cold!

NOT TO BAD CONSIDERING
So it was again nice in a relative way today. We had above freezing temps so even more melting away of the snow and ice. Just before sundown the road were again very wet in many places with a refreeze ahead tonight. It is not looking good for the end of the week with bittery cold temperatures ahead. Although the lows have come up from below zero they are still cold and in the single digits for Thursday and Friday night.

We had another day warm enough to thaw and the snow and ice was melting as fast as it had come down. As long as it don't freeze tonight it will be fine. From the most part our little Blizzard of 09' is about to melt and soak the ground. Don't get it wrong there are still banks of snow 5 feet high but not anything like it was a few days ago. It did get warm today in a relative way just enough to really get some slushy snow.
