12-31-2002 HAPPY NEW YEAR 2003 LET THE RACES BEGIN ! We will be racing tomorrow. Sign ups 1-2 pm. The track is much drier today and will be ready for races tomorrow. The sun came out today and the winds stayed 15-20 mph all day with the high temp of 51 is was nice and dried the track out much. It looks as if the rain or snow will stay south and north of us and we may race Thursday and Sunday if it stays dry and warm enough. Top of Page 12-30-2002 Wet track The track is wet again due to the snow on Christmas Eve. It looks good for the race on New Years Day if we don't get more rain and the winds stay brisk. If the sun had burned through the clouds to this would have been a great day as there was some misting in the morning but the temperature was warm for winter at about 55 degrees in the morning and slipped down by about 10 degrees before the sun went down this evening. The weather was nice again today with clear skies and temps in the 50's it is turning into a very nice winter day. Top of Page 12-26-2002 GRANT PRYOR Today there was some official word on his cause of death. It seems his parents took their son to the emergency room with what they thought was appendicitis. The doctors told them their son had juvenile diabetes. Grant died a few hours later. A link to a story about this incident: Grant Pryor (story by KFOR-TV channel 4 NBC). His funeral is set for Saturday. If you would like to help the family pay for the services, a memorial fund has been set up in his name. Donations will be accepted at any Local Oklahoma Bank. Top of Page 12-25-2002 MERRY CHRISTMAS Today is the day all the children have been looking forward to all year. May your day be safe and merry. Today will be clear and cold with a high in the 30's and clear skies. A white Christmas we will have this year with 4-6 inches of snow on the ground. Top of Page 12-24-2002 Pray for Our Rider It is with deep sorrow we have some bad news about one of our local riders. Grant Pryor #OK011101 #101 (11N) has passed on to the BIG TRACK in the sky. As soon as we have more information we will pass it along. But we want to offer a prayer to his family and say Grant will be missed at Sooner Pearl. He was a great young man and a great BMXer. We are going to have a Christmas with real snow this year. See the MOTO updates on the Race Info page. The mis-placed moto sheets have arrived from the ABA. These will be posted as soon. Top of Page 12-22-2002 MOTOS HAVE BEEN POSTED The weather was again nice today with some northerly wind and cooler temps but we did see for a few hours this morning. High was 46 even with the clouds. See the MOTO updates on the Race Info page. Motos have been posted for all the local races for this year, at least the results that have been made available to us. There are a few more which will take some time to update as we are requesting copies from the ABA due to our copies which seem to have been mis-placed. Start the New Year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-20-2002 5 DAYS We look forward to the return of racing schedule of 2003. As it stands we will continue our current Practice and Race schedule. With the 2003 schedule in the works we have a chance to lay out some Multi Point weekends here in District OK01 and with some planning with Sand Springs there will be be SOME RACIN' GOIN' ON..... Plans are in the works for some new and exciting things at Sooner Pearl. Along with the Opening of YUKON BMX there will be some killer BMX in OK01 in 2003! Top of Page 12-18-2002 NICE DAY The weather was good again today with above average temperatures and some gusting winds. Top of Page 12-17-2002 Showers today We missed the wet stuff by one day. Some rain moved in today and cooled of the weather and dampened things here today. Start the New Year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-16-2002 TRACK DAMAGED! There was some damage to the track which was not noticed till race time yesterday (Sunday). Seems someone drove up the Starting Hill and tried to cross over in the middle of the gate. With the help of a Sooner Lift Service truck and some intense work the gate soon functioned again. Thanks Sooner Lift for all your HELP this year! Race: January 1st, sign-ups 1-2 pm. Start the New Year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-15-2002 RACE TODAY! Today is the last LEGAL race day of the season. We WILL be RACING today. So get ready for a great day of racing to end our season. The weather will be 65 degrees with sunny skies and SW winds at 15-25 mph. What a great forecast for todays race. The weather will be beautiful today and if YOU want to race SUNDAY, YOU need to come out to the track and WORK TODAY after 10am. With the forecast for clearing skies today and with the strong south wind there is a chance we may race Sunday as Saturday is looking very bad for racing. We need to see the sun today with this we may be able to race this weekend. We are scheduled to race on January 1st with sign-ups 1-2 pm. Lets start the new year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-12-2002 NO WORK TODAY We had another rainy day today. The weather was again rainy and windy today. The weather here has been typical winter weather here and it looks as if we may not race again till next year. The rain has been falling and since the track never dried from the snow and ice we got last week there may not be races on Saturday. Sunday is looking questionable now if the rain don't clear out soon. We are scheduled to race on January 1st with sign-ups 1-2 pm. Lets start the new year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-11-2002 NO WORK TODAY AT TRACK We had another rainless day today. Although there was no rain it was overcast and cool today which means there was very little drying today at the track. We have a forecast of more rain tomorrow with cooler temps and no rain and warmer on Saturday and Sunday. We will race Saturday and Sunday if the track is dried enough. If we don't get to race these 2 days then we will not race again this year. We are scheduled to race on January 1st with sign-ups 1-2 pm. Lets start the new year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-10-2002 NO PRACTICE TODAY There was no drying due to the light rain yesterday. The track is to wet to practice today and is questionable for the weekend. The weather is looking like the spring time now with wet weather forecast every few days. Currently the forecast is for rain or snow on Thursday and/or Friday with clearing this weekend. We will race Saturday and Sunday if the track is dried enough. If we don't get to race these 2 days then we will not race again this year. We are scheduled to race on January 1st with sign-ups 1-2 pm. Lets start the new year with a RACE! Top of Page 12-09-2002 WET TRACK The track is still wet today. The light race continued most of the day with no drying today because of the rain. Practice Tuesday is questionable. Please check here or the track message for the most up to date info. Remember we have to stop racing this year on December 15th but we will start on New Years day weather permitting of course. Top of Page 12-08-2002 NO RACE TODAY The track is still to wet to race today. Our usual problem areas are muddy and the remainder of the track is very damp. The weather today is cold, with overcast skies and north wind 10-20 mph and temps in the lower 40's. We plan to race again this year here is our schedule. WEATHER PERMITTING! Tuesday Dec. 10th: Our regular practice session. Thursday Dec. 11th: Race moved to Saturday Dec. 14th Saturday Dec. 14th: Sign ups 1-2 pm Sunday Dec. 15th: Sign ups 1-2 pm Wednesday Jan 1, 2003: Sign ups 1-2 pm Sunday Jan. 5th: Sign ups 1-2 pm Due to the colder weather we will be racing on Saturday and Sunday till further notice. This will be in effect till the weather starts warming up in the evenings in March. Top of Page 12-07-2002 NO RACE TODAY There is a push to RACE today. The track is to wet to race today and is questionable for tomorrow. The track was damp yesterday and is still so today. If the sun stays out and we have clear skies tomorrow we MAY be able to race Sunday afternoon. Due to the weather lately we would like to know if you would be interested in racing on Saturday and Sunday due to temperature drop in the evenings. This would allow us to race when the sun is out and hopefully it is somewhat warm. Drop us an email (link below) and remember we have to stop racing for this year on December 15th but we will start shortly after New Years day weather permitting of course. My option on Saturday races Top of Page 12-06-2002 COOL AND CLEAR The weather was very nice for winter today. All the precip has left and the sun was out today even if the temps were a bit on the cool side. Word is Sand Springs will not be racing further this year but on the other hand we will be racing if the weather permits. The track is a little damp today and races are not advisable. Top of Page 12-05-2002 COLD Due to the weather we will not have races tonight. It seems mother nature is telling us to take another week off. With us not racing because of the GRAND NATIONALS Thursday and Sunday of last week, now we have had a complete week of rest this month. The weather is not in a forgiving mood this week. The forecast is for partly cloudy and high temps in the 30's there may not be races next Sunday. Top of Page 12-04-2002 Sleet, snow and ice Old man winter came to Sooner Pearl today. We continued to receive a mix of precipitation both frozen and not today. With ice weighing heavy on tree limbs this morning there was a mini repeat of the ice storm of January 2002 with electricity off for about 30,000 homes this morning in Oklahoma. Top of Page 12-03-2002 NO PRACTICE TODAY The weather was terrible today with rain, sleet and snow. There will be no PRACTICE today due to the weather with a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for the entire day. Sleet and snow moved into the city early this morning with some accumulation of snow and sleet. Top of Page 12-02-2002 2002 GRANDS The GRANDS are over and HISTORY now. No work on the track today after a BIG weekend of racing. Sooner Pearl and District OK01 had a good turn out for the GRANDS with about 30 riders who showed up to compete. Look here for details on info from the GRANDS soon. Today was a great day with clear skies and 68 for the high temperature. Top of Page November 28-29-30,December 01-2002 2002 GRAND NATIONALS Track closed till December 3rd. SEE YOU AT THE GRANDS! Sooner Pearl will continue to Practice and Race as scheduled till December 15th and begin again mid January weather permitting of course. Top of Page 11-27-2002 ONE MORE DAY Today was another day OFF. The track will be closed for the next few days so everyone can enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday and race in the GRAND NATIONALS in Tulsa. The track in Tulsa was not finished when we left Tulsa today at 4 pm. It is big and appears to be longer than the track last year. There was lots of people in Tulsa for the GRANDS today and the crowd is getting larger every minute. Thursday is your only chance to practice so check the ABA site for the current practice schedule and be early! Sand Springs BMX had the last local race tonight before GRANDS and with flyers going out at the GRANDS today there should be a good turn out for this race and there should be many out of town riders racing there tonight. Sooner Pearl will continue to Practice and Race as scheduled till December 15th and begin again mid January weather permitting of course. AWARDS BANQUET tentatively scheduled Dec. 21st. Top of Page 11-26-2002 NO PRACTICE The weather is not good! There will be no practice tonight due to the weather. Top of Page 11-25-2002 Track News The track phone is on the fritz now. We will try to get it fixed Tuesday! Till we can get the thing fixed we will have to depend on the message machine and other phone numbers to get current info on the track. TUESDAY NIGHT PRACTICE Call the track number for news on practice Tuesday evening or call D&K Bicycles up till about 5:30 to 6pm for info (732-1803). We want to Practice but we are at the mercy of Mother Nature as to if we do have practice. If the weather allows we will Practice if the temperature is OK and it is not raining or snowing. The weather today was cold (38 for the high) with some 15-20 mph north winds and fairly clear skies. It was cold and we don't want anyone to get sick THIS WEEK! AWARDS BANQUET tentatively scheduled Dec. 21st. Top of Page 11-24-2002 RACES TODAY! We will be racing today, the weather is warm enough and dry. Today we should have air temps of 50-60 and no rain. There is some high thin clouds this morning and the wind is from the south at about 10 mph. We should have another great day for racing today which will be our last chance to race before GRANDS. We will have another practice session on Tuesday evening again if the weather permits but the forecast is for showers or snow Monday and Tuesday. AWARDS BANQUET tentatively scheduled Dec. 21st. Top of Page 11-23-2002 NO TRACK WORK TODAY The track was empty again today with no work being done there. Today the weather was again in the 60-70 range and it was nice, nice for November. No work was done at the track although the web site saw some updates today. The moto's for races to 09/29/02 were posted on the site. Soon the moto's will be brought up to date again this year. Next Thursday will see the beginning of the GRAND NATIONALS in Tulsa. AWARDS BANQUET tentatively scheduled Dec. 21st. Top of Page 11-22-2002 NO WORK TODAY Today the weather was great again. Even with this good weather there was no work on the track today but the web site will see some updates soon. Remember next week will be the GRAND NATIONALS in Tulsa, also remember we will racing after the GRANDS. When weather permits we will race and practice till the deadline which is December 15th. We will also start racing mid January weather permitting, we raced on Jan 13th this year and we hope to start early again in 2003. Top of Page 11-21-2002 RACES TONIGHT The races were hot and fast tonight with everyone giving their best to prepare for the GRANDS next week. Tonight the weather was almost perfect for a winter evening of races. With almost no wind and the cool air made for a great evening to race. The temp was about 50and we have partly cloudy very high clouds tonight. The weather for the next week may be quite different as the forecast is for warm weather till Sunday with a change to colder weather and possible snow. We would like to race Sunday if the weather will permit, with another practice session on Tuesday evening again if the weather permits. Top of Page 11-20-2002 Day off The planning for the Awards Banquet is underway now and things are starting to get fall into place for this event. The latest news will be posted as soon as we get the info. The weather is great again today with a great forecast till the beginning of next week. We should have Thursday races and good weather for them as well as the races scheduled for Sunday. Moto postings for the races at Sooner Pearl will be posted soon along with some pictures from the State Qualifier and Redline Cup Qualifier. The tentative ABA National schedule for 2003 is HERE! Top of Page 11-19-2002 PRACTICE! Our regular scheduled practice tonight was a good gathering. If you want to see some great practice sessions this is the time of year to come out to the track. With the GRANDS next week in Tulsa there will be much interest in the track these next few days The weather was great again tonight and looks good at least till Sunday. We hope to have races Thursday and Sunday with Practice next Tuesday evening. Then it will be time for the big show! Top of Page 11-18-2002 ELECTION RESULTS SOON The Election is over and history. Complete results will be posted soon. Today was another fine day with the weather showing us what an Indian Summer is all about. The weather is very good today and we will be racing tonight. Just in case you haven't heard Clint Daily is OK and will be back at the track soon. The nasty fall he had at practice the other night has just slowed him down but he will be here later this month and will be racing later this month at the GRANDS. Top of Page 11-13-2002 Fund Raising The weather was great today and we are going to have great weather for several days. The track is dried and with some work should be in great shape soon. We were lucky today the rains were light and missed the track for the most part. We will be practicing tonight as scheduled and look for info on our practice schedule ahead of the GRANDS. Top of Page 11-11-2002 DAY OFF The weather was nice again today but due to the early time of sundown there may not be much work on the track during the week days for some time. Top of Page 11-10-2002 RACES TONIGHT! We again raced today after our few days off due to the weather. We had a good turn out for the races. With 42 riders we had a good mix of riders. The track is still a little rough from all the rain. The weather should been good for a few days and weare looking forward to letting the riders get in shape for the GRANDS later this month. Some on our riders went to Sand Springs to race today and may be staying there to race on Saturday. There was no work done at the track today. We will be working on Saturday as usual. We raced tonight and everything but the strong south wind was as good as it could get. The track is still a little rough from all the rain we've had these last couple weeks. But this will change with some dry weather. The races were all Total Points and made for some great moto's tonight. The riders are getting ready for the GRANDS later this month and it is becoming evident our riders are working hard. OK01 should have some great riders in Tulsa for the GRANDS. We will be racing Thursday evening so get ready for some action. The races should be intense since we haven't been able to race for some time now. The rain is gone and won't be back for a few days. Top of Page 10-29-2002 NO PRACTICE With all the rain we have had it is a wonder the track hasn't washed away. At the current time it looks like we need 2 good days after a hard rain to have the track dried enough to race or practice. It looks as if we will have to miss out again today on the excitement of the races. 10-27-2002 NO RACES TODAY There will be no races today due to the rain. It has started to rain here this morning at about 7:30 am and the radar looks as if we will be getting rain for several hours today. We had hoped the weather would clear to race today and with Saturday dry it looked good till this morning. Practice Tuesday evening is questionable this week with the weather forecast of rain till Wednesday and this may affect the races Thursday evening also. We are hoping to get so more races in before GRANDS and this weather is not helping. Top of Page 10-26-2002 NO RAIN TODAY We were lucky today and the rain missed us for once. The weather was great and the riders had smiles and a good time. We had some new riders and many great races for everyone. The competition was high and seems to be building for the end of the year. We will have another opportunity have have a ABA Clinic at Sooner Pearl in the future and this could get things really heated at our regular races as each of our riders push each other to very higher levels. Top of Page 10-05-2002 YUKON BMX The parade and booth at the Czech festival was very successful do to the help of dedicated parents and members. The booth was to help raise awareness of YUKON BMX and raise operating funds for the Yukon Athletic Foundation. Thanks in part to the Yukon Kawanis for the good location and half the cost of the booth there was some serious money raised to help get YUKON BMX on track to open soon. Top of Page 10-04-2002 Yukon Oklahoma There is NEWS about the Yukon track. Tomorrow is the Annual Czech Festival in Yukon. There will be a group of ABA rider members and parents in the PARADE and attending the booth for the NEW Yukon track. EVERYONE is invited! The Official name of the NEW track in Yukon is 'Yukon BMX Raceway'. The starting gate has not been installed but excitement is building for the opening race in Yukon. We are working hard to make this happen. The air cylinder which operates the gate was taken in to have estimates on repair. Parts will need to be ordered and the repairs will be done in the near future. Top of Page 10-03-2002 TRACK AND RACE CHANGES What a beautiful night for races tonight. Very little wind and the temp was in the 70's with some clouds and storms on the horizon. The rain stayed west of the city till after the races. About 11 pm we had some light showers with some clouds. There was a good turn out of riders and spectators tonight. All had a lot of fun and hard racing. We have some new ABA members this week with others coming in next week. Many local riders and parents are starting to come out to see what all the interest is about. The local Yukon kids are becoming aware of the track and the Yukon Police Department is in the process of building a BMX team. The track has been built and the gate will be installed shortly after some modifications to ensure the safety of riders. As our regular practice session was running the meeting was held. Most of the parents who came to the track attended the meeting. There was some very good business discussed during meeting. Express BMX is fully under construction and the track is nearly complete. There will be some work to do and the GATE will need to be constructed before sanctioned racing will start. The track is looking fair these days as we have been ESCAPING the heat on the off days. The new rhythm section is starting to get more packed due to the riders practicing on it. It seems the the ABA will be out soon to begin the work of building the track at EXPRESS BMX. The area where the track will be located in the new park is now leveled. There is getting to be more and more of our 'old' riders returning to race the track again. It is GREAT to see them come back to the track and look around to see what has changed and hear the stories of 'The Old Days'. Our NEW rhythm section is complete and it is a KILLER!. If you are one of the people who have been concerned that our track was without it isn't now. With 10 obstacles there is a full compliment for every rider. Just watch out for the jaw dropping and the eye popping looks to see this GREAT set. See You THERE. 07-28-2002 PM Waynoka State Qualifier The weather delayed sign-ups for the race with rain showers till early AM today. The track was in good shape except a few muddy spots which required some work before races could start. The track operator (Martin Guenter) and his family put in many hours of work for this race, they are VERY dedicated BMXers. We had a great time and want to say a BIG 'THANK YOU' to them for a great day of racing. Look for moto results for this race ONLY at the Sooner Pearl Raceway site! Top of Page 07-27-2002 RIDER APPRECIATION DAY A day for our RIDERS. Today was the day many have been waiting for, Rider Appreciation Day. Today was FREE for District OK01 riders, this was another day you didn't want to miss. The racing was hot and so were the FREE hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Oh yea... SO WAS THE RACING! Another day that will be remembered for a long time to come. We had 23 moto's today and our riders had TONS OF FUN racing and getting to know each other better. Thanks to The 15th Street Grille and other some kind donations we had most everything a BMXer could ask for FREE. With a extra great crowd today it seems the riders were not the only ones having fun and the crowd got to see some racing. With a Trophy Run, a Parents Race which ended up being one gate of ladies and a gate of guys, a Pit Bike race and FREE everything else who could ask for more? More will be posted soon about this day of fun and racing. Top of Page 07-26-2002 Off to the races. Several Sooner Pearl riders traveled to race at Sand Springs. What another great evening of racing tonight. The track was burning up with competition and it showed today. The State Championship is getting near and the racing is getting better and better. Oklahoma BMX is HOT! Top of Page 07-25-2002 Rider count is up! HOT racing again tonight. If you missed it the you really did miss out. The temperature is on the rise and so is the competition, with the temps pushing past 90 we had it hot tonight. The conditioning of our riders has paid off and it shows in this heat. Even with the heat we had many spectators out tonight and they got to see some great racing. Top of Page 07-23-2002 Practice tonight What can we say. The track was a buzz with hot practice tonight. We had several New Members who came out for practice to get a little experience. What these newest riders did not know was that they would be getting. Thanks to some of our regular riders we had our first New Rider Program session. Talk is cheap at the track, now our new members will be coupled with our more experienced riders for starters. You can read more about this soon. What a great feeling to watch both all our riders out working together to help each other. This was a crown evening at Sooner Pearl and if you did not make it for practice you really missed the beginning of a new page in the history of this track. Top of Page 07-21-2002 VISITORS WELCOME With the heat turned up another notch so was the racing. The local riders made it here for one thing, hard and hot racing. This was a good afternoon for all who raced. The LINDER Race Team was passing through Oklahoma and made a stop for some HOT racing Sooner Pearl style and they found great competition here. Thanks for coming by and have a SAFE trip home. Top of Page 07-18-2002 RACES TONIGHT Our regularly scheduled race night tonight. Another HOT night of racing as the season gets into the last half of the year the racing gets HOTTER. We had very nice weather again tonight for a July evening. Just a little on the warm side with a nice south breeze keeping temperature in the upper 80's. What a turn out tonight. Top of Page 07-16-2002 PRACTICE TONIGHT Once again we meet to compete. With this season more than half finished the races are starting to wind up. The riders are in TOP SHAPE and the races show how this has changed. OKBMXPA BOARD MEETING There will be a FULL board meeting at the track on Thursday July 18th at 7:00pm. If you are a board member please attend this meeting as we will be reviewing upcoming events and Track Work Day schedule till the Redline Qualifier among other items. The races had that air of energy which appears just before BIG races. With cloudy skies and the heat turned down tonight that was the only thing that was down tonight. Top of Page 07-09-2002 Practice in the HEAT Hot practice action tonight. The sun went down on another day but before it did the heat brought on some very heated practice. We had a visit by Gage O'Ryan who will be out of racing for a few weeks due to a shoulder injury. We look forward to seeing him back at the track soon and as always in the thick of competition. GOOD LUCK, Gage... Top of Page 07-07-2002 RACES TODAY We raced today. Even with a number of our regular riders at Dacono Colorado for a Nationals race we had a very good turn out today. With the heat came some intense races and competition. We may not have been in Colorado but we didn't miss much! Look for more on the Dacono races soon. Top of Page 07-06-2002 Work day The track has begun to look much better. These last few days have seen much work on the track and today was another of those days. The weekend of July 20/21 will again see much work. Next Sunday the races will be postponed due to the races at Sand Springs. SEE YOU THERE! Top of Page 07-05-2002 WORK DAY SATURDAY With the rain comes track work. The sun did its part getting the track dry, however come out in the afternoon for a WORK DAY tomorrow to work on the track surface and other areas which needs attention. Top of Page 07-04-2002 HAPPY JULY 4TH We hope you and yours had a safe and fun July 4th. The sun come out and the track started to dry today. There should be only small chance of rain the remainder of the weekend and races should continue Sunday as scheduled. 07-04-2002 9pm NO RACES TODAY The track was to wet again today for riding. The sun did however come out in the afternoon and started the drying of the track. There are some major wet spots, the track surface is in good shape other than the wet areas. 07-04-2002 1am RAIN Rain showers again. With light showers this morning the track is to wet for any riding. We still need one full day of sun and wind to dry the track after yesterdays showers. With light showers this morning the track is to wet for any riding. We would need one full day of sun and wind to dry the track after yesterdays showers. With the rain showers this morning expect a longer delay. If the rain conditions continue Thursday night races may be in jeopardy. Watch for an update later on track conditions. 07-02-2002 1am MOTO'S have been posted MOTO's for June 8th (Race for Life) moto's June 9th (State Qualifier) moto's are now posted. Watch for info on DeSoto Texas Super Nationals, Amarillo Texas State Qualifier and Red Line Qualifier, Little Rock Arkansas Race for Life, State Qualifier and Red Line Qualifier local rider results, pictures etc. to be posted soon. Top of Page 07-01-2002 10pm MUD & Meeting With the rain so came MUD. The showers came and went and now there is mud. The track drained better than any other time so far this year today with all the rain. If a few individuals had kept off the track with both feet and bikes there would have been very little work required to get the track in shape for practice Tuesday evening. With some good sunshine and wind the track MAY be dry enough to practice. There will be a OKBMXPA Board Meeting Tuesday evening at the track, all current Board members need to attend this meeting. Although most of the meeting will be closed to the public. After the closed session we will give anyone who has a topic to be discussed time before the board. 07-01-2002 1pm RAIN TODAY Rain showers most of the day. With storms overhead we are having a good test of the new drainage work today. The current conditions as of 1pm was temp 68 winds from the south at 10mph and light rain with 1/4 inch expected today.
